Press conference to be held on Monday, Oct. 30
Reading, Pa. – Angel Figueroa, CEO and co-founder of I-LEAD Charter School, today applauded I-LEAD’s students, faculty and staff for the significant improvement in academic performance during the 2016-17 school year.
Based on the Pennsylvania School Performance Profile (SPP), I-LEAD’s overall score increased 36 percent from 32.5 in 2015-16 to 44.1 in 2016-17.
“Although we have more progress to make, I am pleased that our SPP score shows an upward trend in student academic performance,” Figueroa said. “This significant growth is a testament to the dedication and commitment of I-LEAD’s students, faculty and staff. They are to be commended for a job well done.”
The increase in I-LEAD’s SPP score is predominately attributed to the overwhelming increase in academic growth as measured by the Pennsylvania Value Added Assessment System (PVAAS), which tracks student academic growth throughout the school year.
“We must not forget that I-LEAD Charter School is an academic trauma center that predominately serves at-risk students,” Figueroa said. “Oftentimes, the students who enter our school are three to four years behind academically or have recently dropped out of a traditional public school. Our focus is to get them back on track to obtaining a high-quality education and their high school diploma so that they can seamlessly transition into the work force or higher education.”
As a way to ensure that current and incoming students are placed in the most appropriate educational program, I-LEAD this year administered the nationally normed NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) examinations in both mathematics and language usage.
“I-LEAD is unwavering in its commitment to educate its students and prepare them for success as adults,” Figueroa said. “The board, administration, faculty and staff are using every tool at their disposal to provide students with high-quality educational programs and services. We will not quit until our students receive the education they rightfully deserve.”
